Detectives Seize Counterfeit Alcohol Worth Sh12.2 Million From Illegal Distillery In Kericho Village

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) yesterday issued a seizure notice at a makeshift distillery that distills and packages counterfeit alcoholic products in Kericho County yesterday.

 

Located in Keongo village within Nyagacho area, the distillery has been responsible for manufacturing fast moving, cheap spirits sold in local wines and spirit outlets. Upon raiding the premises, Nakuru based detectives and officials discovered and seized counterfeit alcoholic brands popular with the youths like Best Vodka, Space vodka, Kane Extra, Venice Vodka and Tycoon Vodka.

 

Also recovered were rolls of counterfeit KRA stamps drums full of ethanol, mixing buckets, assorted tops and counterfeited stickers of different distillers.

 

Authorities are in search of the owner of the premises identified as Paul Kimani Kamau who immediately went into hiding.

 

The distillery was shut down and all exhibits which are valued at Sh12.2 Million are currently kept in the custody of KRA
