Education CS Orders Reinstatement Of Prof. Romanus Odhiambo
Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu has ordered the reinstatement of Meru University of Science and Technology ousted Vice Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo.
In a press release, the CS termed the decision as ill-timed and unlawful as he was not consulted as the Education Cabinet Secretary.
He further directed that the university council’s term in office to lapse on 9 March, 2023 and the Meru University management to facilitate the re-opening of the institution not later than Wednesday 8 March, 2023, with the scheduled Graduation to take place as earlier planned promising that he will grace the occasion.
“The institution’s 10th graduation ceremony that was to take place on 11 March, 2023 will proceed as planned and I will attend the ceremony,” said the Education Cabinet Secretary.
The Vice Chancellor had been ousted by the University council in what they termed as “a below expectation”performance.
The angered Meru University of Science and Technology students staged demonstrations to protest the move since then leading to the indefinite closure of the institution.
