Girls Being Poisoned To Stop Them From Going To School

Younes Panahi deputy education minister in Iran on Sunday said there are people poisoning school going girls in the holy city of Qom and South of Tehran in order to shut down girl child education.
Since November 2022, hundreds of school going girls have succumbed to poison as reported by health facilities in Iran.
Previously, the minister for education in Iran claimed the reports circulating on social media over poisoning of girls were ‘rumours’ and that students reported to have succumbed to respiratory illness were suffering from other diseases.
However, his deputy Panahi yesterday said; ‘it has been found some people wants schools closed especially girls’ school. They don’t want to see a girl going to school “.
Ali Bahadori Jahromi a government spokesperson on the other hand told AFP news agency that education ministry was trying and using all it’s means to find the cause of the students’ poisoning.
The poisonings come days after Iran and China urged mutual neighbour Afghanistan to end restrictions on women’s work and education.
The two sides called on the Afghan rulers to form an inclusive government in which all ethnic groups and political groups actually participate, and cancel all discriminatory measures against women, ethnic minorities, and other religions.
In December 16th, 2022, a 22-year-old Iranian girl, Kurd Mahsa Amini died in custody over allegations of violating the country’s strict dress code for women. As the case, the country has been facing regular protests over human rights violation especially girl child.
