Frida , 23-year-old met her death after the vehicle she was in with said lover Tirus Maina Gikonyo who was a married man plunged into Titanic Dam in Juja Constituency on 17th January.
The duo were in Gikonyo’s car, Nissan X-Trail, when the vehicle reversed and plunged into the dam under unclear circumstances.
Tirus Maina, 39, and Kamuyu, 23, drowned and their bodies were retrieved from the dam the following day, January 18.
It took less than 2 days for Maina’s body to be identified but for Fridah, until January 26, the parents were unaware of her death only to identify her after Kiambu County Criminal Investigations Officers had processed her fingerprints, established her identity and alerted them.
According to details, Frida who graduated from Uzuri Institute in November 2022 with a Diploma in Hotel Catering and Management rarely called home and that might be the reason why she took long to be identified.
She also worked in an MPESA in Thika Town where she is reported to have met Maina and fell in love with him.
“After graduating from college in November 2022, she got a job as an M-Pesa shop attendant in Thika Town. We understand that she met Gikonyo, a resident of Makongeni, in the course of her work. Their friendship transitioned to a romantic relationship. At the time of their deaths, they were three months into their relationship,” said Mwaura Kiambu County Criminal Investigations Officer
She had known her alleged boyfriend Tirus Maina Gikonyo for three months before her tragic death.
Gikonyo was laid to rest on January 27 in Mukurweini, Nyeri County.
