Five fire incidences in a month rock Narok, traders have lost millions of shillings.

Traders in Narok township have raised concern over numerous fire incidents reported in the recent past that has caused them to incur millions of losses.

The traders led by the area Member of County Assembly Lukas Kudate said about five fire incidents have occurred in various parts of the town in a period of one month.

Among the places that were reduced to ashes were: five shopping centers in Mongare area, Double M hotel, Kenya Assemblies of God (KAG) and Muchai Apartments in Majengo estate.

The traders spoke yesterday at the Mongare area when the county governor Patrick Ntutu visited one of the affected premises.

The governor said the police have launched investigations to ascertain the causes of the fire, warning that if there are individuals behind the incidents, then they will be arrested and prosecuted in court of law.

He reiterated that the county government is in the process of purchasing five fire engines that will be stationed in different points in the county so as to respond promptly during fire incidents.

The governor also released Sh. 1 million to the affected traders to help in putting up the destroyed structures.

The county executive member in charge of Roads and transport John Gatua believed that the fire had broken out due to poor connection of electricity in some of the buildings that were mostly affected in the area.

The Deputy County Commissioner Silas Gatobu urged the residents to report any suspected electrical fault to the respective authorities so that they can repair.

“We are yet to establish the cause of the fire, and investigation is still going on to establish the cause of fire” Gatobu said.

He said that they were working with the county government to control the fire outbreaks in the county.

Gatobu called on the residents to support the investigation by giving information that could lead to establishing the cause of the fire.
