Shakib Shares Reason Why He Introduced Himself In Luganda On Young, Famous & African


Zari Hassan’s husband, Shakib Lutaaya, has explained why he used Luganda as his introduction in Netflix’s Young Famous & African show.

 

In an exclusive interview with NRG Uganda, the businessman explained that he wanted people to know that all languages are the same and that their main purpose is passing information.

 

Shakib also added that in the Netflix show, he wanted to be unique from other characters by introducing himself in Luganda rather than English.

Further, the 32-year-old businessman said when he was young, he loved to watch movies and wished that at one time, he would represent his native language in a global space.

 

“I grew up watching movies and always wanted to see films from Uganda. So when I got the chance to be on Netflix’s Young, Famous & African, I wanted to showcase Luganda and represent Uganda.” He explained.

 

On Netflix, Shakib’s introduction, he said; “Nze Lutaaya Shakib, nva Uganda and I’m Zari’s fiance”- simply translated as “I am Lutaaya Shakib, Zari’s fiance from Uganda.” This attracted divisive opinions among social media users, and a section thought he would use Luganda in the whole show.

However, he shocked many after he was found using pure English in the remaining segments. Previously, Zari chided critics questioning her husband’s poor English.

 

Zari explained that although many criticise Shakib’s English and also doubt his level of education; he was on the way to earning millions of money from Netflix.

 

My husband is going to be on Netflix. You, with your English, your literature, your accent, your everything; look at you! My husband is going to be on the biggest platform in the whole world—Netflix. And you are here discussing his English. See your life!” She clapped back at critics.
