Swiss Marathoner Abraham Tadesse Reveals Why He Dedicates His Barcelona Marathon Title To Kiptum
The Eritrean born marathoner who took Switzerland nationality Abraham Tadesse won the 2024 Barcelona Marathon as he clocked 2:05:01 as he broke the course record of 2:05.06 set in 2023 marathon set by Bahrain’s Marius Kimutai.
After winning the marathon, Tadesse revealed why he dedicates his win to the departed world marathon record holder late Kelvin Kiptum who passed away early February through road accident alongside his Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana.

The Swiss marathoner, said that all his life, he has never witnessed a great runner like Kelvin Kiptum who won all his three marathons in spectacular times. Adding that Kiptum’s death affected him in his life saying he will forever be in his heart. “I have never seen a better marathon runner than Kiptum.” Tadesse said in an interview with USA News.

Kelvin Kiptum had broken World marathon record that was initially held by his countryman Eliud Kipchoge where he broke the record during Chicago Marathon in October last year as he clocked 2:00:35 setting new marathon world record.
Speaking in an interview with USA News, Tadesse hailed praises on late Kelvin Kiptum saying, “I have never seen an athlete compete in three marathons, win all three and go under 2:02:00 in all of them, and even break the world record.
“I carry Kiptum in my heart. That episode affected me deeply. On that day I was in Kenya, focused. I attended his funeral, I think about him a lot. I thought a lot about him Kiptum, He motivated me a lot today as I ran, and this win is his win.”
