The Kenya National Rugby Team, Shujaa, was relegated from the HSBC World Series after they lost to Canada in the playoffs.

 

The four-team relegation playoffs took place during the weekend, whereby Kenya lost to Canada 12-7 on Sunday after impressing on Saturday. Kenya fell behind Uruguay, who qualified, as they finished 13 while Canada finished 14.

 

The Shujaa team will feel disappointed after the defeat, as they have been participating in the World Series for more than 20 years.

 

The Kenya Rugby Union has since released a statement confirming that it will do all it takes to bring glory back to the Shujaa.

 

“As the newly elected board of the Kenya Rugby Union, we are committed to taking swift action and working diligently to restore Shujaa’s position in the World Rugby Sevens Series by 2024.

 

“In the coming days, we will conduct a comprehensive review of the 2022–2023 season, and based on the findings and recommendations of this review, the board will make informed decisions,” read the statement.
