Nairobi Pastor Jailed For Forging Marriage Certificate
A Nairobi Pastor has been sentenced to one year in prison by a Nairobi court for handing his follower a fake marriage certificate between her and an Indian man.
According to his brother, the said man died with a wife at the age of 76 on July 27, 2018.
Judge Mr. Ben Mark Enkubi said the aim of the pastor and his accomplice was to defraud the family of the Kanwaljit Singh Chadda of his property.
Pastor Christopher Mutira of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church Africa and his follower Marilyn Mercy Wanjiru’s tribulations started when the late Kanwaljit brother Parminder Singh revealed before the resident judge of the Milimani court Ben Mark Enkubi that their brother Kanwaljit Singh Chadda: ” had not been married since birth. He had no Indian, European or African wife.”
Pastor Mutira and Wanjiru were ordered to serve one year in prison if they failed to pay a fine of Sh200,000 each.
In addition to their imprisonment, Wanjiru was fined Sh50,000 or six months in prison.
The preacher and his follower, were accused of forging the marriage certificate between Wanjiru and Kanwajit on July 27, 2018.
Wanjiru was also accused of sending the fake marriage certificate and handing it over to the Registrar of Marriages saying she got married in accordance with the law.
In the case presented in the high court, Wanjiru said he met Kanwaljit in 1989 and they broke up in 1999.
The court was told that Wanjiru claimed that he was the right one to inherit his “husband’s” property.
Wanjiru also told the court that Mr Kanwaljit died of ‘’heart attack’’.
The assets Wanjiru claimed as inheritance are a house in Ngara street where Chadda used to live, a 7.5 acre farm located in Shimoni area in Kwale County, and bond documents in Absa bank and other properties worth 5 milion
