Home » Gor Mahia Takes Control Of The Title Race

Gor Mahia took control of the title push after a 2-1 win over slum boys Mathare United on Wednesday evening.

Right-back Philemon Otieno of Gor Mahia opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and the slum boys got back into the game thanks to Ronald Sichenje’s low, curling shot in the 40th to tie the score at 1-1 at the halftime break.

In the second half, the league leaders collected the maximum points through Boniface Omondi, who scored the winning goal at the 60 minute mark. Both teams had their chances to add to their goals, but they were unable to do so as Gor Mahia went on to win the game and take control of the title race.

Tusker, who are in second place, dropped points after playing to a 0-0 score against Nairobi City Stars, and that meant Gor Mahia opened up a four-point gap at the top of the FKF Premier League with 62 points after playing 28 games, while Tusker closed in on second place with 58 points after 28 games played. Mathare United are in 16th place with just 22 points from 27 games played and are currently on a five-game losing streak.
