The church, New Life Church was closed down on 27th April 2023 by NPS after the arrest of its most followed clergy Pastor Ezekiel Odero.

During the arrest, the clergy and his ministry were linked to the trending Shahakola massacre of over 100 people.

This however led the state’s interior Kithure Kindiki to order for the probe and arrest of pastor Ezekiel, a scene that has sparked the parliament to raise a debate on the regulation of churches in the country with an aim of axing out cult religions.
