Man Kidnaps Three Months Baby Over Mother In-law’s Debt

There was drama among residents of Buseyi Village; Nakalama , after a family man kidnapped his brother-in-law’s baby over an unpaid debt.

 

Swalick Katiba was accused of taking Bonny Kaweesa, his brother-in-law’s three months old baby over money he owes his mother in law. It is said that Swalick gave his mother in law Ush1.5 million to buy charcoal and cassava for their joint business, something she failed to do and instead fleeced the money.

 

When he tried to demand for his money, the mother in law failed to pay prompting him to kidnap the baby from her caretaker identified as Shamim Nangoobi. Neighbors got to know about the baby being in Swalick’s house when they heard her cry. They stormed into the premises and tried to bargain with him to hand over the baby to her family in vain.

 

“I begged him to give the baby back to her family but he refused because he wanted his in-laws to first pay the money,”Enock Mutaasa, a neighbor, revealed.

 

Kaweesa, revealed that he received a phone call at 9:00AM about his daughter’s kidnap over a debt that he had no knowledge about.

 

The residents contacted Nakalama Police and when they arrived Swalick was forced to give the baby back to his family. He was overpowered when he tried to resist arrest and whisked away to police where he will answer to his crimes.

 

East Busoga Police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula revealed that Swalick was being charged with child abuse and torture of a baby.
