46 Admitted, 1 Dead After Drinking Porridge Served At SACCO Meeting
Police in Rubanda are investigating circumstances under which one person died and 46 admitted after attending a SACCO meeting.
It is reported that the group of 47 members went to attend their SACCO meeting to elect new leaders and as the meeting was going on, they were served millet porridge as refreshment. After each returned home, they are said to have experienced excessive stomach ache, diarrhea and vomiting.
They were rushed to the hospital for first aid. Two patients were referred to the main hospital in Kabale District because their conditions were worse but unfortunately one Twakirwe 55, did not make it.
Centenary Gervas, a doctor at the hospital where the group is being treated confirmed that the hospital was treating the 46 victims, also revealing that many were out of the danger zone.
“This is not the first time we have received such cases in Rubanda. We have managed a case like this before,” he said.
Resident District Commissioner Rubanda District, Lillian Ruteraho has revealed that the investigations had commenced and their main focus is on the content in the said porridge.
